How it all started...
In 1853—just five years after the establishment of Caldwell County—a Methodist congregation was formed in the community of Prairie Lea. Early church services were held in the area’s first school-house beginning in 1854, reflecting the close connection between faith and education in those pioneer days.
In 1871, Thomas Mooney and his sons deeded land for a dedicated sanctuary, marking a transition from informal gatherings to a permanent church home. TEXAS HISTORICAL MARKERS The building that stands today was completed and dedicated in 1884, offering the congregation a stable place of worship and mission.
Through the years, our roots in the Wesleyan tradition have remained constant: Scripture-centered, grace-filled, and community-oriented. From the earliest settlers to modern times, our calling has stayed true—to gather, to serve, and to make Christ known in this place and beyond.

Expanding the vision...
From a one-room gathering in 1853 to a thriving ministry today, our church has always looked beyond its walls. As we move forward, we remain committed to living out the Gospel with fresh passion and practical purpose.
We believe that God is still writing our story — calling us to reach new families, strengthen our community, and share Christ’s love in tangible ways. Our vision is to grow deeper in faith, broader in outreach, and stronger in fellowship through worship, discipleship, and service.
Rooted in the Wesleyan spirit of renewal, we embrace every opportunity to adapt, serve, and lead with grace and truth — ensuring that Prairie Lea Methodist Church continues to be a light for generations to come.

Where we are headed...
As we look to the future, our mission remains clear — to make disciples of Jesus Christ and to nurture hearts that are fully alive in Him. Every baptism reminds us that God is still transforming lives and calling His people into something new.
We’re building a church that reaches beyond Sunday mornings — where faith is lived out in everyday life, families grow stronger, and our community finds hope and belonging.
Empowered by the Holy Spirit , we are committed to carrying forward the same grace, truth, and holiness that have defined Prairie Lea since 1853 — into a new generation and a new season of ministry.
